Co-operation Irelands flagship cycling challenge commonly referred to as 'The Maracycle' was once again run this year over the weekend of the 25th -26th June. This is a very challenging event covering a total distance in access of 200 miles over the two days but for some reason or another it always attracts cyclists from all walks of life and of all levels and abilities. Maryland throughout the years of the event being organised has always been represented and this year was no different as several of the clubs members took to the start line.
Denis, Hamilton, Gary and Gerry cycled down to Dublin from Belfast on the Friday and on the Saturday they accompanied Darrin on the journey back to Belfast. Roy and Martyn also made the effort to travel to Dublin to ride the official Saturday and Sunday legs in very impressive times.Gavin Hanna also done the Belfast to Dublin leg on the Friday but had to travel back via the train for Saturday duty in the shop. It must be highlighted that these type of events are generally not races but it doesn't stop riders from setting personal goals and trying to cover the distance in the shortest time. One man setting out to do this was Darrin Lynn and he succeeded in covering the Belfast to Dublin leg in the quickest time. Well Done Darrin!! and to all the others who took part, hopefully this event will continue to attract the clubs colours in future years.
