Mervyn McComb of Lisburn cycling club Maryland Wheelers passed away on March 19th after a short illness aged 76, he is survived by his wife Winnie and sons Mervyn, Raymond and Christopher.
Mervyn was a stalwart of Maryland, especially on our Reliability Trials where he and his team would have tea and sandwiches ready for the hungry cyclist in all weathers, he will always be remembered throughout cycling circles with great fondness, he was a club member for over 50 years was selected as chairman of Maryland in December 1978 and was delighted to succeed his friend Billy Stewart as President in 1996.
Mervyn McComb was a great coach in his early days, along with life-long friend Joe O'Neill they formed ' The Lisburn Schoolboys Assoc. ' in Feb. 1975 with 18 boys turning up for the initial run, that success prompted many young lads to join the club, notably a young David McCall. Maryland will be the poorer for the loss of our dear friend Mervyn.
