Maryland Wheelers Sportive Club Challenge 2010

It is proposed that this year we will run a Sportive Challenge Series for those riders who wish to have a focus for their training but for whom club racing and Time trials are not of particular interest.

I have identified a list of sportives which have a mix of terrain and distance.

I will circulate arrangements for travel, advance entries etc as the information becomes available.

They are:

11th April                    Tour of Carlingford 80K
2nd May                       Tour of the Glens 200K
9th May                        Tour of Tyrone Sportive 90/140K
30th May                      Tour of South Armagh 100K
6th June                      Down 100
20th June                     Bangor Coastal Challenge 110K
4th July                        Divis Challenge 160K
7th August                   Freewheelers Tour of Lough Neagh 130K
8th August                   Dromara Hilly 125K
15th August                 Tour of Innishowen 160K
19th September            Torr Head Challenge 120K

It is intended to plan our club runs around training for the above and to enter and ride the sportives as a club group.

A number of new sportive routes have been identified to add variety to our usual programme of rides.

As a target for this year the following standards will be awarded to the participants:

Gold Standard:          completion of 1000km or more in organized sportives

Silver Standard:         completion of 900km - 999km in organized sportives

Bronze Standard:       completion of 800km - 899km in organized sportives

Any other organized sportive can also be added/substituted for the rides identified above

Prizes for the standards achieved will be awarded at the club presentation dinner at the end of the season.

The Jack McKee cup will be awarded to the rider covering the longest distance in organized sportives over the season.

To cover costs, a charge of £10 will be collected from each rider wishing to participate in the challenge in advance of the first event.
